Lord have mercy. I picked up this book, “Jerseyana,” at a thrift store here in Richmond the other week. Or maybe it was McKay’s, I’ve forgotten. Anyhow, it’s reprints of newspaper columns. The one that took me from “huh, look at this” to “BUYING THIS BOOK NOW, DO NOT TOUCH IT, YOU SHIFTY LADY 50 FEET AWAY FROM ME, I SEE YOU” was one of the last in the book, about a German nationalist camp. Obviously, in New Jersey. That was the first ping. In Sussex County. *ping. In Andover. *ping
So then today I found this article. THERE WAS A FREAKING NAZI YOUTH CAMP AT HILLSIDE PARK, PEOPLE.
So when you take that, and add what happened in Charlottesville this summer, and especially this little tidbit from the Herald article:
In the middle of the scrapbook, McCabe said there was a list of more than 200 car license plates, collected by deputies during a visit to the camp.
“There were also names and addresses of the car owners,” McCabe said. “There were just three from Sussex County.”
…anyone, and I mean anyone, who dares suggest to me that I’m exaggerating or being dramatic about what’s going on in this country can just go do the other thing out of my sight and hearing for now and for ever, amen.
